Bring a date, a rough budget, and whatever you know about what they like. That's genuinely all you need for a first conversation.
Choose the stone
Diamonds or coloured stones, in your hand and under a loupe, so you see exactly what you are paying for and why it costs what it does.
See it before it exists
Drawn, then modelled in CAD from every side, so you can change anything you are not sure about. It is only gold once you say yes.
Collect it at No. 14
Made at my bench and finished by hand, then presented to you in the shop, not posted. When the time comes, the wedding band is made to fit it exactly.
An engagement ring gets looked at, and photographed, more than anything else you will own. You will see exactly what they will see, in CAD, before a stone is set.
Rings from the bench
How far ahead should I start?+
Earlier than you think. A ring made from scratch goes through design, a CAD model, casting and finishing, and stones sometimes have to be sourced. Tell me the date and I will tell you honestly whether it can be done.
Can you keep it a surprise?+
Yes. Ring size is the usual problem; bring a ring they already wear, or a photograph of it on their hand, and I will get close. Resizing afterwards is a small job.
Can the wedding band be made to fit the engagement ring?+
That is exactly what a shaped or fitted band is for, and it is easier when the same bench makes both.
